BSTE 2024 – 11th Belgian Symposium on Tissue Engineering

The 11th edition of the BSTE symposium will be organized on November 21 & 22, 2024 in Leuven, Belgium. Keeping the BSTE tradition alive, an attractive program including international renowned speakers, industrial involvement and several presentation opportunities for PhDs and Post-Docs has been proposed. We are looking forward to meet you at the 11th Belgian Symposium on Tissue Engineering in Leuven!

The Belgian Society for Tissue Engineering aims to bring scientists worldwide together to discuss their newest developments and latest findings in the rapidly expanding field of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine. Tissue engineering is a promising life-science research field that has shown enormous potential for effective tissue repair and regeneration. Significant advances in the tissue engineering field have resulted in engineered functional tissues of a variety of organs such as heart, liver, eye, skin, cartilage and bladder. Moreover, applications in cancer research, in vitro models for drug screening and disease modelling have recently been developed. However, multiple challenges remain to be addressed to produce tissue engineered products. To overcome some of these challenges, next generation tissue engineering includes a plethora of new approaches; among them are 3D (bio) printing, smart biomaterials, self-assembling cellular systems, and in silico modelling. These new technologies aim to generate more complex tissue engineered constructs and to control cell behaviour.

The goals of the Belgian Society for Tissue Engineering are to connect all researchers in Belgium, as well as international collaborators, active within the field of tissue engineering and to promote scientific research in this domain. Both objectives are met by the organization of the Belgian Symposium for Tissue Engineering (BSTE). This symposium offers interesting networking opportunities, while international and Belgian speakers discuss recent advances in the fields including stem cell-based therapies, biomaterial development, computational modelling, biomedical imaging and image analysis. The annual meeting is held to encourage initial contact and act as meeting platform to promote scientific networking and potential research collaborations on a national and an international level.

This year, the symposium has the slogan "From Tissue Engineering to Engineered Tissue".

An attractive program including internationally renowned speakers, industrial expositions and several opportunities for PhDs and Post-Docs to present their work has been assembled. Additionally, plenty of time will be provided for informal interaction between junior and senior academics and industrial partners. We believe that BSTE is an excellent platform for researchers to get acquainted with the current players in the field and to spark new collaborations.

We are looking forward to meeting you at the 11th Belgian Symposium on Tissue Engineering in Leuven!

Groot Begijnhof 14
BE-3000 Leuven

The city of Leuven is full of centuries-old cultural heritage, and one of its most remarkable restored historic sites and UNESCO world heritage is the Grand Beguinage – het Groot Begijnhof in Dutch- right in the city center. Faculty Club is a unique event location inside the Grand Beguinage. We will enjoy scientific presentations right inside the Infirmerie, which served as the beguinage hospital in the 16th century.
